I’m James Wonneberg, President of Grit City Labs. I’m passionate about providing simple tools and methods to help you deliver better projects.

I’ve been fortunate to be a part of the construction management team on several major infrastructure projects, including the Brightwater Conveyance System, DC Clean Rivers Project, Alaskan Way Viaduct Replacement Program, and currently I-405 Renton to Bellevue Widening & Express Toll Lanes. Each of these large and complex projects took 5-10 years, cost hundreds of millions or billions of dollars, and re-shaped their communities in very significant ways. But each project also produced its own mountain of data and information that at times can feel overwhelming.

I believe that the people that work on these projects really do want to know what their 300-page CPM schedule with 15,000 activities is trying to tell them. They want to know the master plan. They want to see the big picture and understand the relationships between activities. But our industry lacks the tools to communicate that information in a way that the entire team can understand.

In 2015, I co-founded GraphicSchedule Inc. with Ron Drake to develop an easy to use Excel add in that is still in use by leading contractors, owners, and consultants today. In 2024, GraphicSchedule Inc. rebranded as Grit City Labs Inc.

“Grit City” is a nickname for Tacoma, Washington – a vibrant port city on the shores of Puget Sound and the place that I call home. When I’m not working on projects or tech, I enjoy spending time with my family, playing tennis and golf, and tending to my bonsai trees.
